OPA1622: connecting the thermal pad to ground instead of the most negative supply

We are curious what the implications are of connecting the thermal pad to ground instead of the most negative supply rail with this device.  Does the thermal pad have an internal connection that is not shown that would affect the operation or damage the device.  Any information on this would be much appreciated.

 

  • The thermal die pad on underside should be connected to a negative supply voltage, V- (pin 4-see below).  Even though there is no direct internal connection between the thermal pad and V- pin, connecing the pad to a different potantial may effect its AC performance.
