TAS5411-Q1: Pops when STANDBY removing

Part Number: TAS5411-Q1

TAS5411-Q1: Pops when STANDBY removing

e2e.ti.com/.../570130

Nice to meet you.

Our tir1 supplier-san also has above problem.

They says that there is no countermeasure for pops when STANDBY removing.

But we think that the countermeasure may be "mute the amplifier before placing it into standby."

If we can get any advices, we are very happy.

1. The way is that (1)set mute On before STANDBY to low, and (2)set mute Off after STNDBY to High). Is this correct?

2. If yes, how long(ms) does it take to mute is on, and mute is off, each?

Regards, thanks.

  • Hello,

To reduce or eliminate the pop at turn on and turn off, the mute pin should be used accordingly.

    Turn-on.  place in mute --> /Standby High --> Unmute

    Turn-off   Place in mute  --> /Standby low

Please allow 40ms for the mute and unmute function to complete.

  • Hello, Gregg Scott-san. Thanks for your prompt reply.

Our supplier-san said that they tried to your advice, but pop was remained.

To find some faults earlier and inform to customers, they do diagnosis each second.

But mute keeps on, but pop is output each second.

=>Is the function of mute pin to stop signal from IN_N/IN_P? So we can not stop generated pop inside TAS5411 between IN_N/IN_P and OUT_N/OUT_P.

If yes, how do we solve this pop generated when diagnosis in TAS5411?

    Mute        _|^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^・・

    Standby   ^^^^|_(diag)_|^^1sec^^|_(diag)_|^^1sec^^|_(diag)_|^^・・

    SP out     ____________|^|_____________|^|_____________|^|・・

    Thanks, regards.

  • Hello,

The pop noise is very low, but there is a small pop on this device when it is turned off.  The reason it is noticeable is the psychoacoustics of a small pop every 1 second becomes audible and something we can hear very easily.  If there is only one small pop one does not hear it well.

There is no work around for this at this time as this device was not designed for this type of continued turn off and turn on sequencing and being 100% pop free.

  • Hello, Gregg Scott-san. Thanks for your reply again.

I understand that mute function can stop only input signal, but can not stop pop generated inside of TAS5411.

    Let me confirm below again.

    > there is a small pop on this device when it is turned off

Our supplier-san said when it is turned on, not off. (=STANDBY Lo->Hi) But you said turned off.

=>How do you think about this difference?

    Thanks, regards.

  • I am sorry, I meant turn-on.

  • Hello, Gregg Scott-san. Thanks for your reply.

Because there are no countermeasure for pop when turn-on, we will study to pull down the frequency to do diagnosis.

If some questions come, let me have a question again. Thanks.
