TLV320AIC3268: Transform I2S (stereo) to TDM

Part Number: TLV320AIC3268
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320ADC5140

Hello,

I'd would like to have the confirmation that i can use the TLV320AIC3268 to gather audio inputs from I2S or PDM (sigma-delta modulation) and output them to an 8ch TDM stream. The output would be connected to several TLV320AIC3268 to be able to completely filled the 8 channels.

If it's not possible, is there another component that can do that ?

Thank you,

Simon.

  • I would do the I2S to TDM conversion in small FPGA.

  • Simon,

This is possible, but the AIC3268 is definitely not the most efficient way to do it.  For PDM the AIC3268 does support up to 4 PDM channels,  so if you needed 8 channels you would need 2 AIC3268s.

Check out the new TLV320ADC5140,  this device has support for 4 analog inputs or 8 digital mics.  so 2x ADC5140 would give you all 8 stereo channels, or 1x ADC5140 would give you 8 digital channels. not sure where your I2S is coming from here... so I thought Id thow this out there. but The ADC5140 or ADC3140 are considerably lower cost an

As Andy mentioned a small FPGA could do this also.

    best regards,

  • Hello Steve,

Thank you for your response. For more informations, the I²S stereo signal will come from some I²S microphone xor some PDM mic (still stereo) converted in I²S stereo. The plan is to combine the 4 stereo (or 8 mono) I²S  into one TDM bus containing all the data.
