LM4766: Query regarding the circuit between Pin4 and Pin 6

Part Number: LM4766

Kai, kindly answered my query regarding the use of LM4766 as an Ampifier using the link attached.

He stated "You can close S1 permamently, if you don't want to mute the LM4766 by hand." As he did not offer a value for Cs, may it take it that it is the same value as Cm?

He also did not comment specifically on my end impedance being typically 175 Ohms to 200 Ohms rather than 8 Ohms, and I still wonder whether I need to add some form of resistance etc to compensate?

Thank you so very much.

CJJ

  • Hi Christopher,

LM4766 is old device, I can not get seasonable support from designer.

From the datasheet, I think the Cs is related to VEE power, 1uF~100uF cap is fine.

Rather than 8ohm load is fine, even no load, the AMP still has no risk.

As the LM4766 is very old device, I suggest you can select TI new audio devices and get more technology support.

    Regards,

    Derek

  • Dear Derek,

I apologise for the delay in replying to your kind response.

My understanding is that although LM4766T/NOPB has no direct modern replacement.

However, your advice regarding, the value for capacitor Cs and the ability to cope with my 175Ohm to 200 Ohm end unit, has answered me fully, for which I am most sincerely grateful.

    Thank you once again.

    Christopher
