TAS5825: tweeter themal limiter not working

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5825M, TAS5825P

hi

I get no effect when engaging the tweeter thermal limiter

even when testing with very low wattage values, see screenshot

using flow smart amp 1.1 96k

is this feature tested and proven to work?

is there any special action I need to do to make it active

thanks

-david

  • Hey David,

Have you imported the characterization data for the speaker?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • hi!

    thanks for the reply

yes characterisation data is loaded, but I'm not sure it's correct

how can I verify that the characterisation data is correct

can you provide 'sample characterisation data' just to test the feature?

    best

    -david

  • Hey David,

I do not have sample characterization data I can provide; however, I can help you debug the problem.

Can you please specify which TAS5825 EVM are you using? TAS5825M or TAS5825P EVM?

Additionally when you collected the characterization data was it done on the learning board?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • hi Carolina!

    we are using the TAS5825M

I did not collect the characterisation data myself, it was done by our production partner, they say:

"The learning Board PPC3 failed to measure the tweeter temperature. Then I measured with another tool and loaded the temperature TS parameters manually."

    perhaps this is a problem?

  • Hello David,

Yes this is probably the problem, what was the issue in characterizing the speaker using the learning board?

Is this the learning board you used (PP-SALB-EVM)?

    All the best,

    Carolina

  • hi Carolina

got this from the TI FAE:

"The bug is located, there is a mistake in exception handling of tweeter smart amp excursion protection calculation although the function is not available. The PPC3 team are working on this fix.

A workaround can be used to move forward is :

Go to TW Characterization Data page -> Go to SOA-Limits panel -> Change the peaking excursion limit to 1mm or lower (The value is not used)"

I've verified that the workaround works

    thanks
