PCM1792A: Sinking or sourcig

Part Number: PCM1792A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1792

I'm planning to design a PCM1792 based dac. I want to know if the current output is sourcing or sinking current. I want to make a remove the voltage offset on the output of the ivc by connecting a current source/sink to the output of the PCM1792A. So basically I have two questions:

Is the PCM 1792A sourcing or sinking current?

Can I remove the offset voltage by connecting a current source/sink of 6.2mA to the output of the PCM1792A?

Best wishes,

Rogier van den Berg

  • Hi Rogier,

The PCM1792A is a high-side current source.  This means that the IOUT terminal must be connected to a lower voltage than the supply of the PCM1792A, ideally a virtual ground.

It depends on how you are implementing the current offset.  The PCM itself cannot sink any current, so you would have to apply some bias to the trans-impedance amplifier on the output.

Feel free to share a schematic on how you intend on doing this.
