TAS2557EVM: PPC3 Hang

Customer is going through the PPC3 training:

PPC3 does the frequency sweep from low to high then hangs:

Further if they abort the test it still hangs. Until they close PPC3 completely.

They found this post, but it didn’t give any solutions:

Any idea of what could be wrong?

Anything they can try to get it going?

Hi Mark,

I think they have IOVDD jumper set to 3.3V, could you ask them to set it to 1.8V instead?

Not sure if it's the same, but we've noticed some problems when using the learning board with our PPC3 motherboard set with IOVDD to 3.3V/

Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming IOVDD needs to be changed to 1.8V on both boards (J20 PP-SALB2-EVM and J30 TAS2557EVM)?

Hi Mark,

J20 on PP-SALB2-EVM is the voltage source for DMIC, which is not used in this case.

Have they tried setting IOVDD to 1.8V on TAS2557EVM already?

Yes, they tried 1.8V and it helped, but they are still seeing issues.

Hi Ivan,

After removing all Matlab installations and then reinstalling PPC3 it works.

Though the next problem is that it doesn’t heat the speaker fast enough. So PPC timesout after ~400 Seconds.
I have run through the process using one of the speakers on the EVM and that works fine.
I noticed that it doesn’t feed more than ~2.5W to the speaker to heat it up.
I haven’t been able to find the right setting to boost the power.

Please advise.

Hi Mark,

Did customer made sure to input all required specs from the speaker from the data sheet into PPC3? Some of the specs are excursion limits, speaker diameter, etc.

Can you get a capture of the Impedance and Excursion plot from the speaker characterization process? The high frequency tone is ideal for microspeaker, perhaps in order to heat the speaker we'll need to shift down the frequency of the tone. We have that option already for new devices but I'll check if we can get it on TAS2557 app.

Hi Ivan,

It looks like we aren’t getting the values we expect for the speaker. The Re value for the Driver should be 3.5 +/- 5 %. Looks like it’s low.

Please advise.
