PCM1864: Capabilities of PCM1864

Part Number: PCM1864

Hi All,

I am looking for an audio codec or processor that can perform a few functions and am wondering if the PCM1864 can do so.

I require 4 analog input channels (2 stereo inputs) and two analog output channels. We need to detect when two of the inputs have some audio input and switch to use those inputs. When those two inputs have no audio, we will instead use the other stereo input channels. We also require the addition of programmable filters, to remove noise and other unwanted audio. Finally, we require digital volume control and mono mixing capabilities.

Can the Energysense/Controlsense function of the PCBM1864 detect mic level voltage (around ten mV) on 4 inputs? If not, could you please recommend a product that can do this?

Thanks.

  • Hi Chandler,

The PCM1864 can do a good bit of what you are looking for, but is an ADC, not a CODEC so it does not have any analog audio outputs. The decimation filters can be set to a classic FIR or low latency IIR and there is also an integrated HPF filter that can be enabled/disabled. However it does not have flexible biquad filters for the main ADC path, only for the secondary ADC that implements the energysense and controlsense functions. It does however have digital volume control and very flexible mixing capability. The energysense thresholds can be programmed however you'd like and could easily detect mic level voltage.

    Best,

    Zak
