LM48580: questions regarding parameters from its DS

Part Number: LM48580
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2700

Hello,

I have to following questions asked by customer for this device,

"I don’t understand some parameters from it DS

  1. Can it operate with 4KHz  buzzers?  As I see from the chart below, it optimized to work up to 200 Hz, and at 1-2KHz it gain is decreased.

  1. What is the output current? I see that these parameters were measured with RL = 6uF + 10 Ohm; I should verify that it can support with parameters as below (see also attached DS):

Thanks.

  • Hi, Victor,

Please take a look at my answers below and let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

1.- Yes, the LM48580 can operate at 4KHz frequencies, but as you correctly mentioned its performance is degraded at this frequency range. The most important thing when selecting a haptics driver is to ensure that the device is capable to handle the load capacitance. I see that the buzzer has 13nF of capacitance. This value is acceptable by the device since it is designed to work with capacitor values of uF order.

I would also recommend to take a look at the DRV2700 ( http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv2700.pdf ), this device can handle higher frequencies without risk to degrade its performance.

2.- The current is limited by the boost converter. This device has a limited output current of 1.1A. In case of the DRV2700, its output current can be modified by a external resistor. It can be up to 2.3A.
