Hey Jared,
It's not necessary to include series resistors, but they serve two purposes: If the data lines are tied to connectors that go to another board or such then series resistance helps limit current from transient events. But really the primary purpose of resistors on the TDM interface is to damp the clock edges a bit to reduce EMI that occurs from sharp edges. Of course you have to be careful not to damp this too much to preserve the clock integrity, but typically values between 10-50 Ohms are used depending on the capacitance on the bus and the data rates used.
