TLV320DAC3100: Increase Headphone Volume

Part Number: TLV320DAC3100

Hi Audio Team,

My customer is using the TLV320DAC3100 to drive headphones. They have received inquiries to increase the volume output. Outside of  changing the Volume control D6-D0 registers, do we have any knobs we can adjust to increase the output volume?

Would going up in HPVDD to the 3.6V maximum help here? Figure 4-8 in the datasheet shows that at -60dB of THD+N a 3.6V supply is at ~70mW versus the 60mW for the 3.3.

Thank you,

Reed

  • Hi, Reed,

The registers associated to the output volume increment for the headphone driver are listed below:

    - Page 0 / Registers 65-66

    - Page 1 / Register 40

Regarding the HPVDD level, your assumption is correct. Having a higher HPVDD level can work to reach a higher output power with better THD+N level.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.
