PCM5102A: Extra delay circuit is necessary or not to avoid PCM1502A pop noise ...

Part Number: PCM5102A

Dears,

Will PCM1502A have pop-noise or not if the customer did not apply extra delay circuit to handle it?

There is no such circuit in EVM schematics but in SBAA346.pdf, the TPS389001 was suggested for delay/mute control for PCM5102A.

Customer wants to know id TPS389001 can be ignore or not?

Thanks.

  • Hi Peter,

There are few cases where the PCM510xA generates a pop noise.

    1. At startup, after the I2S signal is first applied, there can be a pop during offset calibration.

    2. At analog mute.  When the I2S signal is suspended or the data is zero for a specified duration, the PCM510xA will enter analog mute.  This will disable the offset calibration which can generate a pop noise.  The same can occur when data is reapplied.

Using an external mute is the only way to fully prevent pop noise, though in general, the pops from the PCM510xA are low amplitude.  Most applications do not implement external mute.

    Thanks,
    Paul
