audio codec for PDM MIC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCMD3180, TLV320ADC6140

Hi,

I need an ADC chip that can output pdmclk of 2.4MHz to digital MIC, and can correctly analyze the data signal of MIC and convert it into IIS or TDM. Other parameters are not considered first. Does Ti recommend a chip?

best regards!

  • Hi,

We have many ADCs and codecs in the portfolio that can provide PDMCLK and convert a digital mic input to I2S/TDM. PCMD3180 is one option that is part of our newest family of devices and supports up to 8 digital mic inputs with calibration and flexible biquad filtering. This may be a good place to start! If you also need a DAC and only need 1 or 2 DMICs then you may consider using a codec.

  • Hi,

At present, I use tlv320adc6140, and can't sample under pdmclk of 2.4Hz. I have looked at pcmd3180. The configuration is similar to that of adc6140. Can it implement this function.

  • Hi,

Yes the PCMD3180 is essentially the digital mic only version of the TLV320ADC6140. 2.4 MHz is not a supported multiple of 48kHz for PDMCLK. Is there a particular reason you have to run at 2.4MHz though? PCMD3180 has to generate a PDMCLK that is synchronous with the ASI clocks and given the decimation ratios available there are only certain multiples/submultiples that can be used. You could run the DMIC at 2.8224MHz without issue for example.
