PCM9211: Not using ADC.

Part Number: PCM9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIT4192, DIT4096

Hi TI experts,

The customer wants to convert I2S to SPDIF. So I recommended PCM9211.

Is there a simpler solution than PCM9211?

When I do not use the ADC function of PCM9211, is it necessary to supply VCCAD power?

Please check it.

Thanks

Downey Kim.

  • Hi Downey,

The PCM9211 works well and would have the flexibility of adding analog to S/PDIF and many other conversion options for future designs.

A simpler solution would use the DIT4096 and DIT4192 devices which are specifically meant for Audio Serial Interface (I2S, LJ, RJ, etc.) to S/PDIF.

  • Hi Collin,

    Thank you for your support.

Is it necessary to supply VDDAD power to PCM9211? They not use ADC function.

    Thanks

    Downey Kim.

  • Hello,

If the ADC is not used, then VCCAD does not need to be applied for normal operation of the other blocks.  This is covered in Section 8.3.8.1:

If the onboard ADC is not used (such as when the application uses an external ADC) then no power supply is required for the VCCAD pin. This option means that a 5-V rail is not required when the internal ADC is not used. In such situations, VCCAD should be connected to AGND OR AGNDAD.
