TLV320AIC3254: Noise Gate Function in AIC3254

Part Number: TLV320AIC3254

Hi

Could you help to check whether AIC3254 support Noise Gate Function?

The Noise Gate Function is use to reduce the noise flow for DAC path or ADC path. When input signal is
below noise gate level, the input signal will be reduced by ALC volume and to suppress the background
noise.

  • Hi Trevor,

There is a Noise Gate component under TI Algorithms section in PPS. That is triggered based on voice activity.

Would that be suitable for your application? Or are you looking for a fixed threshold noise-gate?

Please let us know the application requirements so that we can recommend a suitable component.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi Diljith,

Our project using the microphone to collect audio signal, but our target signal level is around -60DB to 10DB.

We hop the AIC3254 can remain silent, when the target signal level is less than -70DB.

Can the codec support this feature or do we need to use a mini-DSP?

    Thanks.

    BR

  • Hi Trevor,

Noise Gates are not available as part of the PRB modes. For this functionality you would need to use the miniDSP mode.

The Noise Gate component that I suggested automatically determines the noise floor based on long term signal average.

The noise floor is not a programmable parameter. Only the noise floor attenuation is a programmable parameter.

Would the noise floor in your application remain fixed at -70 dB? With an SNR of 10 dB?

Could you please elaborate on the input characteristics and the attenuation needed?

    Best Regards.
