TPA3255: Can the clip detector signal (CLIP_OTW) cause the chip to shut down and / or assert FAULT

Part Number: TPA3255

Hello team,

Hope you are doing well. When you get a chance please see below:

Can the clip detector signal (CLIP_OTW) cause the chip to shut down and / or assert FAULT?

What is happening here is the droop of our supply rail during signal peaks, when driving large audio signal with substantial current / load, is causing some small amount of high freq hash / distortion on the load at the signal peaks; the output signal is not really clipping and the output current is well below current limit.  When this happens CLIP_OTW toggles (as expected, due to distortion being present).

This is not a problem in itself but do we have to monitor the CLIP_OTW signal? What if we don’t? I know it goes low as a warning when the chip is about to overheat (and if it overheats further the chip shuts down).

How are we to differentiate between when this signal goes low due to clipping vs. overheating? The data sheet does not explain this.
