DIX9211: Can we change optical S/PDIF inputs into Coaxial S/PDIF inputs?

Part Number: DIX9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIR9001, DEM-DIR9001EVM

Hello Sir,

May I ask a question on DIX9211 inputs?

It's seen that DIX9211 has 12 S/PDIF Input Ports, but only 2 Coaxial S/PDIF Inputs. While the customer need 3 to 4 Coaxial S/PDIF inputs in their products. May I ask  can the customer use other Optical S/PDIF inputs for Coaxial S/PDIF inputs with adding buffering inverter?

Thanks for your reply.

Best regards,

  • Hello,

You're correct that the DIX9211 can only accept two channels of small-signal differential COAX input signals and the other channels are meant for TOSLINK style single-ended digital inputs.  The circuitry used on the DEM-DIR9001EVM can be used to translate the COAX input to an appropriate digital input for the DIR9001 and the same will work for the DIX9211.  I've pasted it below for reference and the you can follow the connections from the CN001 COAX input through the U002 device and into the DIR9001.
