DIR9001: Input data stream format detection

Part Number: DIR9001
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIX9211, DIX4192

Hello,

My customer is wondering if DIR9001 can detect input data format like PCM, AC3 or DTS and inform which format it is to external MCU.  Is it possible?  It doesn't say such thing in the datasheet, so it won't be possible, but please let me confirm it.  If it can't, do you have any idea to make it possible?

Best Regards,

Yoshikazu Kawasaki

  • Hi Kawasaki-san,

The DIR9001 does not have format detection for compressed non-PCM data because this kind of data cannot be decoded into traditional I2S, which is a 2-channel protocol and our device does not have multiple DOUT pins to support multi-lane I2S. it only provides channel status information that is included as part of the AES3 protocol. If you need format detection you will want to use a device like DIX4192 or DIX9211, though these devices are also not able to convert this to I2S for the same reason. They can however pass the data through S/PDIF and tell you what the formatting is.

    Best,

    Zak
