PCM2912A: USB Microphone Audio Interface Not Working

Part Number: PCM2912A

Dear TI

I am new to electronics and I have been designing a very simple USB audio device with a MEMS microphone to use with a Raspberry Pi.

I am having a few problems with the device listed above. When I connect the device to my computer the TI chip just heats up and I can't get the system to recognise the USB audio codec.

The design was created in KiCad and I have attached a screenshot of the design.

Would it be possible for a member of your technical team to look over this, and offer me some support?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

  • Hi,

Here's a few notes and questions.

1.)  The PCM2912AEVM is a nice tool with an example schematic and layout that can be followed for basic configuration.  https://www.ti.com/tool/DEM-PCM2912AEVM

2.)  If you're not planning to use the VOUT signals, then POWER can be connected to GND for the 100mA operation.

3.)  Add recommended decoupling to VCCR/VCCL.

4.)  Is the VCCP net getting routed anywhere else or provided to other components?

5.)  Is the MBIAS voltage at the correct level?

6.)  What is R4 doing?  Half of it looks floating.  There is usually a resistor from VDD to D+

7.)  Connect HGND to the GND connections.

8.)  Try shorting out L1 if the above doesn't resolve the issues.
