TLV320ADC3140: Non-standard sampling frequencies

Part Number: TLV320ADC3140

Hello,

the datasheet for the TLV320ADC3140 lists supported FSYNC and BCLK frequencies on page 25. For a new project we would need sampling frequencies which are not listed in this tables: for example 20.48kHz and 25.6kHz.

Is it possible to use this ADC with this "unsupported" frequencies? If yes, what are the drawbacks?

TIA

Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Operating the device at sampling rates between the respective 44.1kHz and 48kHz multiple/submultiple is supported. For the range of interest this means sample rates between 22.05kHz and 24kHz would function without issue, but operation outside this range is not guaranteed. There is usually a bit of margin in what the filters can handle, but I don't recommend operating at the frequencies mentioned because the device's tolerance to jitter degrades as you move further from the supported sample rates until eventually it is unable to lock so we cannot say whether these sample rates will work reliably from device to device in various conditions.

    Best,

    Zak
