TLV320DAC3203: HW mute functionality

Dear TI

      I am looking to use the TLV320DAC3203 for a new product, However I would need a HW mute functionality. We are not using a microphone in our application. Looking in the datasheet and application note it looks like MFP3/SCLK can be re-purposed as a GPIO (datasheet 7.3.3) and used as a mute function. However I cannot figure out how this works. Could you let me know if this is possible or not?

    Hi, Thomas,

    Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

    Unfortunately, this device doesn't support HW mute. The TLV320DAC3203 is all software controlled, so you would need to configure page 1 / registers 16-17 for a headphone driver mute or page 0 / register 64 for a DAC mute.

    The GPIO cannot be configured for the mute functionality ( see the different GPIO configuration details on page 0 / register 52: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau434a/slau434a.pdf#page=95 ).

    Thanks for the quick response,

       

             Can you suggest another DAC that is similar that does have a HW mute functionality? It does not need to have the built in AMP as I can use the TPA6130A2.

    Hi, Thomas,

    From the TLV320DAC family, unfortunately there's no hardware controlled DAC. I think there are some PCM devices like the PCM1794A-Q1 which support MUTE pin. However, these devices belong to another product line, so I cannot provide additional details.

    Could you start a new E2E thread asking for the PCM1794A-Q1 and alternative solutions? E2E will address you to the right contact who can answer your questions.
