Hi,
The differential output/input case actually can reach up to 4x times the singled-ended output/input. As mentioned in the datasheet ( https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tpa6205a1.pdf#page=14 ), the differential output plugs 2 x Vo(pp) into the power equation.
When using a singled-ended input, the output will be limited to a range from GND to VDD. Using a differential input will result in a maximum output level from -VDD to VDD.

Hi Luis,
Thank you very much!
Please help to double confirm. When TPA6205A1 is used with single-ended inputs and powered with 5V and differential output , What is the maximum output power ?
For example, in the following circuit, what is the maximum output power from TPA6205A1 to the 8-ohm speaker (@<1%THD) ?
Best regards!

Hi, Chuanfang,
Thank you for the additional information you provided.
Even if the speaker is connected as differential output, the output is actually considered as single-ended (VIN+ is at the reference voltage, so VOUT+ will be 0V).
The maximum output power at 1% THD+N is 1.25W for differential output. As stated in the datasheet, the output power for single-ended mode will be 4x times less, which results in ~0.3125W (1% THD+N)..

Hi,
Is your output voltage measurement related to the single-ended output or differential output? The single-ended output power will be always 4x times less than the differential output power.
Best regards,
Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.
hi Luis,
My question is simple. When IN- short circuit to GND, What is the maximum output power? You told me, when IN- is grounded, the output is actually considered as single-ended, even if the speaker is connected as differential output. But my test results show that's not the case. You need double confirmation.

Hi, Chuanfang,
Thank you for the clarification and the tests you performed.
I searched for more information and you are alright. The maximum output power is actually dependent of the power supply. Even if you use a single-ended or differential input, the differential output will be always dependent of Gain x (IN+ minus IN-). However, Vo+ and Vo- are limited to the power supply level. So, if you are using a 5V power supply, you should expect a maximum output of 5V on each output. This will result in a maximum output of 1.25W, which coincides with the THD+N vs output power plot of the datasheet (figure 7).
Let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

Hi Luis,
The problem is clear. Thank you very much! If TPA6205A1 has SPICE model, then I can figure out the problem by simulation. That's why I've been asking you for the S model.

Hi, Chuanfang,
Unfortunately, there's no SPICE model for this device. Please let us know if we can support you with something else regarding this case. We will be glad to help you.
