Hi team,
Hope you're doing well! My customer has an urgent issue regarding this chip. They are hearing a "popping" noise coming from the smart amp. They've received returns from multiple different ECs across multiple units. Please see further information below. I also have the schematics which are proprietary, so I will share those internally via email once this ticket is assigned.
We’ve run into a critical issue with two of our products that use the TI TAS5766MRMTT Smart Speaker Amplifier. When the issue occurs, there is a repeated pop/blip sound from the speakers. We have identified the same issue with the TAS5766M output on two different designs with different processors and different layouts.
Although not all these chips exhibit this issue and the failure rate is still to be determined, we have had this issue happen at customer sites across multiple units, so this is starting to get high visibility here.
Our investigations show this issue appears be temperature related. When the popping sound happens, it is periodic in nature. Also, as the TAS5766M chip warms up, the popping sound will happen more often. A more detailed issue report and findings are included in the attached word attachment. I have included links to 2 recording of the pop/blipping sound we are experiencing:
pop sound.MOV – this shows the pop/blipping sound with no audio on the speaker.
popSoundWmusicPlaying.MOV – this shows how the audio cuts out when the blip happens.
