TLV320AIC3106: What is necessary in terms of resistors and caps to connect this to the TPA3136AD2 amplifier?

Part Number: TLV320AIC3106
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3136D2

Hi team,

My customer is trying to connect the RIGHT_LOP/M and LEFT_LOP/M of the codec to the LINP/N and RINP/N of the amplifier. They want to know what is best in terms of the caps/resistors in between the parts. The TPA3136D2 shows that 1uF caps are required on both RINP and LINP on the amplifier, but the codec datasheet shows 560 Ohm resistors and 4700uF caps going to the amplifier, with no real explanation given for their presence.

Can you explain which configuration they should go with and why?

Thank you!
Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

The 560ohm resistors and 4700pF caps you see connected to the Line outputs of the CODEC are low pass filters. We highly recommend that a low pass filter with a ~30kHz cutoff frequency be added. The LPF will filter out any Out of Band Noise present from the CODEC. If not filtered out, the out of band noise can get aliased back in the audible band through the Class-D and distort the output. So these filters along with AC coupling caps to the amplifier should be fine.

    Regards,

    Aaron Estrada
