TAS2770: Power Limiter function without battery tracking

Part Number: TAS2770

Hi, Team,

We are using the TAS2770 in one of out projects with line-powered supply of 16V and 4Ω load. We would like to use the power limiter of this device, but it is not clear if there is a way to bypass the VBAT tracking to use the limiter in standalone operation. Could you please confirm if it is possible to use the power limiter function without the monitoring of VBAT?

Thanks!

  • Hi, Diego!

    Thank you for contacting us.

Our team will take a look at this and will provide a response as soon as possible.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Hi Diego,

I think there are two ways to do what you need on TAS2770 limiter:

    • One approach is as described in data sheet page 40: set the desired max level with LIM_TH_MAX, then set inflection point below the minimum allowable VBAT using LIM_INF_PT. This way LIM_TH_MIN will not impact the limiter behavior.
    • Another approach is to set LIM_TH_MAX and LIM_TH_MIN to the same value, although this is something I haven't tested. Let me know if this approach is of your interest so I can verify its correct operation.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

PD. Really good to hear from you, have a good week!

  • Hi, Ivan,

I wasn't sure who is supporting the '2770 now but is great to see you here. Hope we can meet soon!

Thanks for your reply, I did some experiments with our board and the first option is working, so probably we will be ok for now.

I'll let you know if I find any issues with the configuration or if any other questions with this device arise.

    Have a great week!

    Best Regards
