PCM5101A: Zero data detect

Part Number: PCM5101A

Hi,

Could you please give me advice for Zero Data Detect feature?

My customer found the pop noise when the zero data detect work such as mute -> work -> mute sequence.

a) Is it possible to disable the zero data detect?

b) Could you please let me know the how to control the muting? Is it disconnect internal switch? Or is there a treatment not to occur the pop noise with software?

Regards,
Nagata.

  • Hi Nagata-san,

The pop you are hearing is likely the device entering or exiting the auto analog mute mode.  There is a small offset calibration that occurs when this happens, and that can be audible in some systems.

There is no way of disabling the auto-mute feature on the PCM510xA family, only the PCM512x/4x devices.  The only way to avoid this is to continuously apply a non-zero input, in the form of a single LSB dither signal, a single LSB offset, or you could just invert the DIN line.

    Thanks,
    Paul
