LM386: Alternative to LM386 with EVM that can rise volts that for eurorack synths

Part Number: LM386
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6205A1, TPA2011D1

Hi Team,
Our customer found a board in ebay below that uses LM386.

Since LM386 has no available EVM, do we have an alternative device for LM386 with available EVM that can work with the customer application below:
He want that EVM can be powered with one DC adapter without getting hum/false pitch!  That he can amplify multiple 1 volts audio max from ipad to 5 volts CV! He has few old ipads for synth control.

Also, he wants to know this information supposedly for LM386 if it has available EVM:
How much volts can rise amp if connect iPhones headphones that have 1 volt maximum. I need 5 volts maximum for EURORACK SYNT MAXIMUM 5 volts as is standart for

CV (The concept of CV is fairly standard on analog synthesizers, Volts per octave was popularized by Bob Moog in the 1960s, and was widely adopted for control interfacing. One volt represents one octave, so the pitch produced by a voltage of 3 V is one octave lower than that produced by a voltage of 4 V. Each 1 V octave)

Please let me know your comment.

Thanks,

Jonathan

  • Hello Jonathan,

Our team is looking into this thread and will respond as soon as possible.

  • Hi Jonathan,

If you're looking for a Class-AB alternative, perhaps TPA6205A1, it is not pin to pin compatible but this device has an EVM as well as Spice model available for evaluation.

  • Does this customer need to drive headphones? If he's trying to generate control voltages for modular synthesizers any standard op-amp will work.

  • Hi Team,

This is Chris, a colleague of Jonathan in the Support Center. I will handle the same customer moving forward. Please see the latest response from our customer:

"Yes thank you. Will be there more alternatives, this TPA6205A1, is to expensive for me, I would 12 mono amps.... I would need cheapest soltion. I just need to rise few volts from 1 v to 5 max... And I dont care which class, but ussaly is Digital much cheaper true?"

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

I think the main concern is the availability of an EVM for evaluation, is this correct? Regarding the cost, based on ti.com information TPA6205A1 should be actually cheaper than LM386 so I am not clear on that concern. If looking for cheapest analog input solution perhaps TPA2011D1 would be an option, although this comes in BGA package, is there any concern about the device package?
