SRC4190-Q1: Using TMDI and SDIN

Hello, Team,

SRC4190-Q1 is capable of accepting TDM input with TDMI input while also inputting I2S via SDIN.
Based on this, our customer is thinking to use SRC4190-Q1 with a setting below:

If data is inputted to TDMI, would reference clock be BCKO?
Or, if it is set to slave mode, then reference clock will be generated from external CLK; therefore only inputting data is ok?

Hey Masaru,

There is no sample rate conversion between TDMI and SDOUT, only between SDIN and SDOUT so TDMI should be synchronous with the BCKO.

Thanks for the answer.

I assume that the TDMO would have 2 sub-frames which each sub-frame contains data from TDMI and SDIN.

Is the order of outputting data determined by which pin was used for the input?
In other words, please tell me which data are outputted first: data inputted to TDMI or SDIN?

Hey Masaru,

The data on the SDIN pin will be output first, followed by the TDMI data stream.

Hey Masaru,

This information is not explicitly shown in the datasheet but is the only logical way the data could be arranged. The SRC does not know how many channels of valid data are already present in the TDM stream so has no way of knowing which slots it should place its own data in. Thus, it outputs its own data first in TDM format in the first slots on the bus and then appends the waveform from the TDMI pin.
