PCM9211: Can PCM9211 set I2S output slave mode ?

Part Number: PCM9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SRC4382, DIX4192

Hi TI experts,

My customer want to convert SPDIF to I2S. But they want I2S slave mode.

I confirmed in the datasheet that the Aux output can only operate in Master mode.

Is there a way to set it to slave mode when converting SPDIF to I2S output?

Please check it..

Thanks,

Downey Kim.

  • Hi Downey,

It's not possible to run the S/PDIF conversion in I2S slave mode because this would require a sample rate converter (SRC) to ensure that the recovered S/PDIF data is synchronized to the external clocks and the PCM9211 does not have an integrated SRC. It is possible to do this with a device like DIX4192 as long as the I2S clocks are derived from the clock recovered from the S/PDIF stream. Otherwise, I would suggest using a device like the SRC4382.

    Best,

    Zak
