TAS3251: Using PurePath Console 3 without EVM

Part Number: TAS3251

Hi

I'm wondering whether it is possible to use the PurePath Console 3 software to connect to a TAS3251 in-system without using the EVM board. Another thread mentions that the XMOS IC on the EVM board is a generic I2C or I2S interface, but it would appear that it requires software ROM that is not provided to be flashed to work this way. There is mention of a "Direct I2C" mode in the software but I'm not sure I understand how it works.

What types of interfaces or I2C bridges are possible to use for this purpose, if any?

Thanks!

  • Hi Larry,

Have you got an EVM? If so, you can simply fly the I2C wires from EVM to your system to use the GUI. Just make sure the I2C address of the devices on EVM and your system are different to avoid conflict.

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for the reply.

I do not currently have an EVM yet. I'm guessing the software won't be compatible with any other interfaces other than this particular EVM board. Is it possible to obtain the ROM file to program the XMOS IC on the board?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Larry,

Yes, I can share the firmware image with you.

However, this means you will need a XMOS on your board, and follow the EVM design on the I/O connection between XMOS and TAS3251. Is it the solution you want?

Or I would suggest to use other XMOS based EVM, like TAS5805EVM, to be the bridge between your board and PPC3 GUI.

    Thanks!

    Regards,
