TS3A227E: Asking for TS3A227E schematic review

Part Number: TS3A227E

Hi Team,

Would you please review TS3A227E schematic for my customer in the following two project?

BR,

SHH

  • Hi SHH,

Thanks for submitting these schematics, will take a thorough look at the implementation and get back to you shortly.

    Thanks!

  • Hi SHH,

    For the Venus Project:

    1. For the I2C connections, which seem unused in the project, have Pull up resistors on SDA/SCL lines and a Pull down resistor on the /INT line. However these resistors (R2030, R2032, and R2033) are marked NI - can you please confirm if these resistors are not installed? Also if I2C is unused the datasheet recommends connecting SDA and SCL directly to VDD and the /INT pin connected directly to Ground the resistors are not required.

    2. The Resistor R2031 is indicated as a resistor that has a NI marking. This is the ground sense pin on the TS3A227E and should be connected to the same ground as the Codec - there shouldn't be a resistor on this pathway if this resistor is installed - it is not necessary.

    3. For the the /MIC_PRESENT output make sure the pull-up resistor (R2038) is installed.

    4. Sleeve, Ring2, and TIP ferrite beads - During the detection process a signal is sent from tip to measure the impedance from tip to RING2 and from tip to SLEEVE. The signal that is sent has frequency content - it is not a pure DC level. The ferrite beads will have some impedance characteristic that could hinder detection. This is not a guaranteed issue as the impedance for the ferrite beads should be pretty low - but if detection issues do arise this could be a possible source.

    5. Audio Jack Selection: This jack seems to have 7 pins where the 7th pin is the connection for the sleeve - however this connection is not connected to the sleeve pin of the IC. This is connected to pin 6 of the audio jack. The sleeve of the 3.5mm input must be have the sleeve pin of the IC connected to it - verify that pin 6 will also be connected to the sleeve pin.

    6. /DET_TRIGGER: Ensure that R3459 is installed to keep /DET_TRIGGER high until insertion event.

    For the MC project:

    1. I2C connections - how it is setup is fine, but we recommend if these pins are unused they are connected directly to VDD for SCL/SDA and GND for /INT - the resistors are unnecessary, but the application should still work fine in this setup.

    2.  GND Sense - Should be connected to CODEC reference - the  0 ohm resistor shouldn't cause too many issue but is unnecessary.

    3. Ferrite Beads on RING2,SLEEVE, TIP - same as the comment for the above project, it probably won't cause issues but it could be a source of detection issues if the impedance of the ferrite beads + the pathways between TIP and SLEEVE/RING2 could saturate the detection algorithm. At the low frequency of the device this shouldn't be a major concern but it could possibly create some detection errors.

Everything else looks good - I am the most concerned about the audio jack on the Venus project, as the MC project seems to be mostly fine - there could be some issues due the ferrite beads but besides that it looks okay.

If you have any other questions please let me know and I will see what I can do!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
