ADS1256: data rate

Part Number: ADS1256

Dear Sir/Madam,

When implementing the ADS1256 with a precision load cell (I am reading the two signal wires of a Wheatstone bridge), I do achieve a high data rate (>10 ksps) on a single channel differential input. However, switching channels is a challenge.

What is the minimum switching time between channels?

Could you provide any information on how to switch between the different channels as fast as possible?

If the ADS1256 channel switching drastically limits the data rate I can sample (including the switching time), could you recommend an I2C single-channel ADS with 24 bit and a data rate of at least 2500-3000 sps ?

Thank you for your kind help.

Best Regards

GT

  • Hi Giuseppe,

Figure 19 and Table 14 from the ADS1256 datasheet are shown below.

Figure 19 shows the proper sequence for multiplexing through channels, the requisite commands to issue, and the timing for this sequence (t19). Table 14 quantifies time t19 showing the throughput possible for the different data rates using the sequence from Figure 19.

So you should be easily able to achieve the desired throughput of 3000 Hz using a data rate of >=7500 SPS and using the sequence from Figure 19.

  • Hi Bryan,

Perfect, thank you very much! We did achieve fast data rate switching channels, all good.
