Multi-channel ADC for slide potentiometers application

Hi team

My customer is selecting the multiple-channel ADC to measure 16 slide potentiometers on one board, I collect some requirements here and could you help give the correct TI P/N for this opportunity?

  • Preliminary resolution and sample rate: 12bits and 1~2Msps
  • Channel: 16 channels or 8 channels
  • Simultaneous sampling:
    • There is a chance that more than one channel would measurement on the same time but the specific channel numbers is uncertain yet, maybe 4 or 5 channels.
    • If the simultaneous sampling is not able to achieve, is it available for the customer to use polling method to collect data?

I roughly found three multiplexed devices, could you help also give your comments on these three devices?

8-Channel: ADS7028, ADS7951

    If the customer is looking for simultaneous sampling, narrows down the number of devices. I did a quick parametric search, note the top 4 devices meet the 1MSPS, the remaining devices can go up to 500ksps. 

    If they are open to a multiplexed device, then there are more options. 

    The three devices you listed are all great options and are very popular devices

    The ADS7028 is the newest device of the three, and offers integrated features, support different modes of operation (auto sequence would be good to show customer) and has GPIOs functionality. I would also suggest looking at the ADS7038 family device that does not support all the integrated features if the customer has no use for them. 

    The other two devices are part of the same family and have similar functionality, main difference is the channel count as you noted. These devices are very popular and also support GPIO functionality.
