AMC1336: AMMC1336 CLOCK INPUT

Part Number: AMC1336

hi,

i am using this ic in my design. so as to read data from this ic clock input has to be given. i am using ACPL-0873 digital filter to process bit stream data from sigma delta modulator and interfacing this with spi to controller. i have doubt does this digital filter provides the clock to modulator or we need to give external clock input to modulator so as to get data. please reply asap.

  • Hello Uma,

The AMC1336 does not generate its own clock, so you will need to supply both the AMC1336 and your digital filter with an external clock signal. It is also a good idea to route the clock signal from the external clock to the AMC1336 and then to the digital filter instead of routing from the external clock directly to both the AMC1336 and to the digital filter. The reason for this is to minimize any phase shift between the data and clock inputs to the digital filter if there is a long trace length difference between the clock and the digital filter vs the clock and the AMC1336.

  • hi scott,

thanks for the reply.so i will give pwm output from controller to AMC1336 and digital filter. actually i have 9 such modulators and 3 digital filters in my design. can i give same single  PWM output to all these ic using clock buffers?

  • Hi Uma,

Yes, you can use a single clock source for all of your devices, and a clock buffer would be a good idea to reduce loading effects.
