TSW14J57EVM: Trigger Option of HSDC Pro for TSW14J57EVM + ADS54J66EVM

Part Number: TSW14J57EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS54J66EVM, , ADS54J66

I am using
  ADS54J66EVM
  TSW14J57EVM RevE
  ADS54Jxx GUI v1.8
  HSDC Pro 5.20 + ADS54J66_LMF_4421.ini  .

Trigger Option is disabled on HSDC Pro.

Is it possible to use the Trigger Option (TRIG_IN / TRIG_OUT *)?

Regards

  • Yasuhito,

Yes it is. See section 3.1.3.3 of the attached document for more information.

  • Thank you, jim s

The User's Guide describes Trigger Operation.
However, the HSDC Pro menu is disabled.

    How can I enable it?

  • Yasuhito,

It appears the TSW14J57EVM does not support the trigger function. I am looking into seeing if this can be added in a future release of HSDC Pro GUI.

    Jim

  • Yasuhito,

We have updated the ADC INI to enable the Trigger Option menu and added the necessary trigger parameters. Kindly find the INI attached and follow the steps mention below to try it.

    1. Place the modified ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig ini file we have shared in the following directory location:

                 C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\High Speed Data Converter Pro\14J57revE Details\ADC files

    1. Launch High Speed Data Converter Pro.
    2. Configure the ADC EVM.
    3. In HSDC Pro, select the ADC as “ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig” – ADC INI.
    4. Download firmware and now the Trigger Option menu should be enabled. Note that the firmware used for capture only uses internal FPGA memory, so capture depth is limited to around 1M samples.https://e2e.ti.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/73/ADS54J66_5F00_LMF_5F00_4421_5F00_trig.ini

  • Jim,

    I immediately tried using "ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig.ini".

When I selected "ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig" in HSDC Pro, the "Trigger Option" was enabled.
I checked "Trigger mode enable" and "Software Trigger enable", connected TRIG_OUT_A(J14) and TRIG_IN(J13) with an SMA cable, and clicked the "Generate Trigger" button.
However, the dialog "No trigger occurred" was displayed and the data could not be obtained.

I checked the status of TRIG_OUT_* and TRIG_IN with an oscilloscape.

In "ADS54J66_LMF_4421.ini" which does not use a trigger, TRIG_OUT_* was 1.8V and TRIG_IN was 0.5V.

This is probably because the TRIG_* I/O pins are unused and the FPGA's internal pull-up resistor (25kOhm) is enabled.

In "ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig.ini" using the trigger, both TRIG_OUT_* and TRIG_IN were 0V.
Also, even if I clicked the "Geterate Trigger" button, the trigger pulse was not output to TRIG_OUT_*, and it remained at 0V.

Is there anything I can do to enable the triggering feature?

    Regards,

    Yasuhito

  • Yasuhito,

We have verified this function works when using a different firmware. Please use the attached updated ini file.

  • Hi Jim,

I checked the operation using ADS54J66_LMF_4421_trig_new.ini, and both TRIG_OUT_* and TRIG_IN worked fine, and I was able to get the data.

    Thank you very much.

By the way, if possible, could you please share the firmware project file for future reference?

    Best regards,

    Yasuhito

  • It was received.
    Thank you so much.
