LMP92066: cap selection

Hi team,

On our DS, LMP92066 Power Supply line filtering/bulk capacitance recommends a 10 to 47 uF electrolytic cap on the VDD node, using a 10 uF tantalum cap on the EVM.  However, there’s currently a shortage of tantalum caps, with lead times up to 52 weeks.

Ceramic caps are much more readily available currently.  Do you foresee any issues with using a 10 uF, or larger, ceramic capacitor for this particular application on the LMP92066 VDD line?

    Hi Connie,

    The power supply powering the VDD pin must be capable of sourcing a minimum of 50mA. This is required in order to avoid the continuous activation of the LMP92066’s power-on-reset (POR) circuit. Bulk tantalum capacitance will provide the instantaneous surge current requirements during EEPROM operation. This bulk capacitance will reduce the burden on the VDD power supply. Normal IVDD current required is 50mA and during EEPROM operation it can surge to 60 mA. If you can design the VDD supply to handle atleast 60mA with a good transient response ( 10mA surge in 200uS), I believe a ceramic 10uF - 22uF will do the job.

    So it all comes down to the VDD power supply capability
