ADS1115 channels switching setup time

Does anybody know what happens when the converter switches among the muxed inputs? Is there any additional time to wait for the internal filter update?

  • Maurizio,

There are two modes of operation.  One-shot mode, and continuous conversion mode.  In both cases there is always valid data.  In the one shot case, the next conversion after the mux change will be the expected result for the new mux setting.  This is the easy case.

It differs with the continuous case.  The mux setting does not change for the register mid-conversion.  It will complete the conversion for the old mux setting and the results issued for the previous state.  Then it will change the mux to the new setting and start a conversion for the new mux setting and the next result will be valid for that new mux setting.  So depending on when the actual command is issued relative to the conversion is when the new mux data will be valid.

So to avoid capturing the wrong data following a mux change, you can either throw away the next result, or wait a specified amount of time, depending on the conversion rate.

A little confusing I know, so if you have any questions or need something clarified further just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Bob B
