Hi,
I am wondering if I can use the ADS131M04 Delta Sigma ADC for DC current measurements? I note in the datasheet AC current measurements are shown using a current transformer. In my application I would like to measure 2 DC voltages and 1 bi-directional current. The current sampling resistor will be of milliohm value with about +/- 50mV being applied to the ADC input.
thanks,
Glen.
Hello Glen,
No problems for the ADS131M04 to measure DC current or with a shunt resistor. Looks like a gain of 16 would be good for moving the Full scale range (FSR) down to your sensing value.
Feel free to check out the One-phase shunt electricity meter reference design using standalone ADCs where current is measured on the neutral line using a shunt resistor: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-010036

Thanks for that information Cole, I thought that was the case it looks like a very useful ADC.
Glen.
