TSC2004: Bypass capacitors

Part Number: TSC2004

Hi Team,

We have received this inquiry from our customer,

The TSC2004EVM-PDK has 0.1uF bypass caps to the ground plane layer for SNSVDD (C8) and IOVDD (C7), and a 10uF for Vref (C6).

The TSC2004 datasheet shows an application circuit with both 1uF and 0.1uF for those.

Just wondering which is recommended to follow and any rationale.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Decoupling capacitors follow the same guidelines overall. High capacitance ones act as reservoir, helps with short duration dips in the supply line. Low capacitance ones act as high frequency noise filters, acting as shorts to GND for high frequency components on the supply.
You may need one more than the other depending on the supply you have at the end application, but a good practice is to have one of each close to each power pin to prevent both cases.
