DAC81416: Query on min VCC for the +/-2.5V bipolar output range

Part Number: DAC81416

Table 7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions of the data sheet suggests the minimum value for the VCC is 9V.Does this remain  9v even if I choose a bipolar output range of +/-2.5V. In my perspective minimum VCC and VSS can be higher by about 2V than the output range.. Having said this, I wish for a +/-2.5V bipolar output range Min VCC can be +4.5 and VSS can be -4.5V. Please confirm.

  • Hi Amar,

The device still requires a minimum of 9V for VCC, even if the output is only ±2.5V.  There is some internal reference gain and scaling that used in the system that still requires a higher VCC.

    Thanks,

    Oaul

  • Thanks for that Oaul. If so,  then the data sheet needs a small correction at test conditions of Section 7.8  where it mentions  "bipolar ranges: VSS ≤ VMIN – 1.5 V and VCC ≥ VMAX + 1.5 V for the DAC range". This gives an understanding that if my range is +/- 2.5V then the VCC can be  4V  since Vmax is 2.5V.
