ENOB and SNR need for close to DC frequency sensors?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS122C04

..

Hi,

I have some close to DC operating sensors with signal conditioner, such as Temperature and Pressure, frequency 0-2Hz, 12 bit ADC SAR Ratio metric, sampling frequency option 1khz to 20kHz.

ENOB and SNR mostly considered as AC performance characteristics, are these applicable for close to DC operating sensors too? or simple DC performance can be evaluated like the error budget considering INL,DNL,Gain and offset error and not worrying about  ENOB?

I think to comply ENOB requirement we will need  calculate SINAD or SNR, in FFT near DC frequencies the skirt of window will not let us find the signal for SNR.

Any thoughts welcome

  • Hi Chaitanyab,

You are correct in that ENOB and SNR are AC performance characteristics.  For these types of sensors, the Delta-Sigma converters are usually implemented, devices like the ADS122C04 for example.  What SAR converter are you looking at?
