ADS7828: Power ON/OFF question

Part Number: ADS7828

I'm using the ADS7828EB/2K5 device. My power supply is 3.3V at pin 16 (VDD+) and my reference voltage at pin 10 (REFIN/REFOUT) is 3.1V. My concern is this: if I turn of the power supply 3.3V at pin 16 and the reference voltage is still ON. Is this going to damage the chip or not. I test it out after I turn the supply off and ON again the device works normally but I want to make sure this will not cost damage to the device later ON.

Please advice.

  • Hello Lidong,

I don't think this will be a short term issue and don't expect damage to the device immediately. However, I fear that over time, device reliability may become a concern. My recommendation will be to turn off the reference when the device is powered down and not being used. This will be the best way to ensure that the device reliability does not become an issue over time.
