ADS131A02: The way to know internal reference is working

Part Number: ADS131A02

Hi Experts,

My customer is asking about internal reference. AVDD is 5V and internal reference is set to 4.0V. Due to safety requirement, customer wants to know the internal reference is working correctly by software. This might be tough question to answer and there may be several ways.

Can I hear any thought?

  • Hi Uchikoshi-san,

Is there more than one ADS131A02 in their system? If yes, the customer could potentially measure the internal bandgap voltage (REFEXT = 2.442 V) or the reference buffer output (REFP = 2.442 V or 4 V) using a spare ADC channel on a separate device.

Alternatively, if the internal reference failed or was accidentally disabled, the ADC output codes would no longer correlate to the expected value. When the ADC reference is 0 V, the output code should read + or - full-scale.

    Regards,

    Ryan
