DAC8742HEVM: Scripting

Part Number: DAC8742HEVM

Hello,

someone using scripting feature in the DAC8742HEVM GUI?  Which version of Python excactly should be installed for using the scripting? I tried Python 2.7.18 and the neweest 3.10. Both versions and in both cases it doesn't work. I get this error message:

Is there a description for scripting, how it works or using of commands?

Thanks

  • Roman,

There is a bit a trick to this in Windows 10. I would first start by unloading the newest version of python (3.10) and stick with the 2.7 version.

Once the 2.7 version of python is downloaded and set up, you should disable the Windows App execution aliases.

    • a. Go to “Apps and Features” menu in windows (Press START button, type “Apps and Features”, press enter)
    • Select “App execution aliases”

    • Uncheck all the python values

After that, I think it should work. Let me know if you continue to have problems.

  • Hello Joseph,

I changed both python values to OFF (= german Aus). After starting the GUI I get the error message " Python 2.7 not detected" again. I installed Python 2.7.18. from python.org

  • Roman,

I just realized that this is for the DAC8742HEVM, which doesn't describe python scripting in the user manual. Even though there may be a button for scripting, but it might not be implemented for this EVM. In some newer EVMs this feature is implemented in the software and described in the user's guide.

For the DAC8742HEVM, the python scripting does not open for me either. However python does open for others EVM GUI software that I have. This leads me to believe that this feature wasn't completely developed at the time. I'll need to check on this a bit more and get back to you.

  • Roman,

At this point we're not sure if the EVM GUI is capable of the python scripting, and it may take us a while to figure out if this requires a change in the GUI software. For now, I'll close this thread and I'll at least remind you that there is the ability to save the configuration of the device into a file and load it later from the file.

If we are able to get the scripting to work, I'll reach back out to you.
