ADS8355: SDI/SDO pin

Genius 17365 points

Hi Experts,

Good day. We do understand that SDI pin is used to communicate with other device via SPI communication.

We would like to know what happen to ADS8355 is leaving it unconnected (i.e. grounded or floating)?

Can we use the SDO pin to send data to another device (FPGA for example) in a kind of default mode by grounding this SDI pin?

Or is it absolutely needed to configure some registers to initiate the communication?

Thank you for your support.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hello Archie,

    Thank you for your post.

Yes, the SDI pin can be grounded if there is no need to read or write to any of the device registers. By default, the device will output data on both SDO pins (dual SDO mode). If you wish to use only one SDO pin for both channel A and channel B data, then you will need to write to the SDO_CTRL register and set the SDO_MODE bit to 1b.

    Regards,
