ADS8557: absolute maximum rating

Part Number: ADS8557

Hi,

A customer I am supporting has an urgent query for  ADS8557IPM/R.

The absolute maximum rating for this part is -18V (HVSS to GND).

Their questions are:

  • In some of the applications the supply can reach to -19V. Does the component has margin to work with -19V?
  • Does the component work with rail-to-rail supply (+18V/-18V=36V)?

  • Just to clarify the rail to rail question.

Can the component work for example with +14v and -20v. As long as It will not get to 36v?

  • Hello,

We can not recommend a production design where the customer solution is violating the absolute maximum ratings of the device.  It's quite likely that at room temperature a device may function, but over all cases and temperatures there will surely be trouble if the abs. max ratings are violated.

As shown in the table, the difference between HVSS and AGND can not exceed -18V, and so a -20V situation won't work.  If AGND was at -2V, then HVSS = -20V would still be within -18V of AGND, but it's not a common situation for AGND to not be at 0V.
