ADS1298R: How to implement 12-leads measurement without RLD connection?

Part Number: ADS1298R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298, ADS1296, ADS1294

Hi Team,

My customer raises a new requirement from their end user: ECG functionality must keep working even when RLD electrode disconnected from patient.

Their ECG module in patient monitor is based on our ADS1298. I understand the RLD OUT can be routed to any other signal electrode in this condition, however, once the RLD driver signal is routed to one of analog input channel through RLDIN pin, this channel cannot be used as signal input channel anymore (internal MUX disconnected from input channel), thus the circuit cannot implement full 12-lead ECG anymore. Cannot meet end user's requirement this way.

Do you have any other idea to implement this requirement?

Regards,

John

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for the support.

It is not possible to use only a single ADS1298 device and to meet the new requirement without any additional circuitry. One option is to use the combination of ADS1296 and ADS1294 to achieve a 12-lead ECG and still have redundant channels for rerouting the RLD signal.

    Thanks
