ADS122C04: I2C Interface sink current on SCL/SDA

Part Number: ADS122C04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LSF0204,

When using the ADS122C04 I2C Interface with the LSF0204, what is the current sink capability at SCL/SDA pins?

Background of this question: We want to use the device with a “switch-based” level-shifter (LSF0204) which requires the i2c slaves to be able to sink current (up to ~3mA).

I guess as these are CMOS input's the 3mA sound high.  If LSF0204 is not working is there any suggestion on a pin compatible device?

  • Hi Bertram,

The SCL and SDA pins are open-drain and can sink substantial current.  What happens is that at some point the open-drain transistor will have resistance that affects the VOL level.  That said, the electrical characteristics table uses a sink value of 3mA as the test condition.  So yes, the ADS122C04 is capable of sinking 3mA.

    Best regards,
