ADS7028: ADS7028

Part Number: ADS7028
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7038

Hello,

We are looking to use the ADS7028 in a new project to measure RMS.

I see that its temperature range is –40°C to +85°C and yet I see that the ADS7038 has a –40°C to +125°C.temperature range

Yet the following is the case:

Maximum Junction temperature, TJ for both the ADS7028 and ADS7038 is the same at -40°C to 125°C

Maximum Storage temperature, Tstg for both the ADS7028 and ADS7038 is the same at -60°C to 150°C

As both use about the same power, I was wondering why this the ADS7028 has a 40°C lower rating.

Kind regards,

Conor Gray.

  • Hi Conor,

As this device family was releasing the main applications that required the additional RMS and ZCD modules were only requiring temp ranges up to 85C.  This allowed the device to be offered at a better 1ku pricing than the full-temp range ADS7038 devices. As you've noted the recommended operating range is only up to 85C, but the abs max ratings are higher.  This means that while the device performance is not tested or guaranteed, it won't get damaged with ambient temperatures until the abs max Tj temp is exceeded.
