DAC8564: Offset errors are little different among 4 channels.

Part Number: DAC8564

Hello TI experts,

my customer considers DAC8564 for their new product. and they have a question.

In the datasheet, offset error and full scale error is little different among channels, please see the figures below;

especially channel C is much more different than other 3 channels. Could you explain about it?

I also opened datasheets of other 4ch DACs, I think DAC8xxx series have these characteristics.

My customer handles very low voltage signal, so this difference might be a problem to them.

Please check this issue. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

Offset error can be caused by series resistance within the IC itself due to device layout and other factors.  These curves are considered typical, but may vary from device to device.  I recommend that the customer use the electrical characteristics table to select the device if certain specs are critical.  It is possible that some devices and channels within a device operate near the maximum rated offset error.

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Dear Paul,

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I found that offset error is +/-5mV and full scale error is +/-0.2% in datasheet.

so you mean that Ch.C also has an offset error that is within +/-5mV then it is fine?

and does it also mean that it could be have different offset errors(especially Ch.C) if we measure another DAC8564?

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi Chase,

Your understand is correct.  The offset error varies device-to-device, and it is possible that some channels have similar behavior on average when comparing devices.  We the specifications with a min/max limit so that we have high confidence that each individual device will not fail the min/max spec across the conditions specified in the electrical characteristics table.  If you were to measure multiple DAC8564 devices, you will likely see different offset behavior.

    Thanks,

    paul

  • Dear Paul,

Thank you for your support. I will discuss about it with my customer.
